I've installed the regular Gnome terminal and using that instead of MATE's terminal. I don't know. MATE is fine, but I might switch to gnome 3 sometime soon. Sometimes there are these really strange bugs.

Anyways, Japan always has notoriously low voter turnout. Many people are either not interested, believe they can't make a difference, or are more or less content with the status quo.

That's not including the 期日前 turnout, is it? I think that alone was 15% or something like that.

I don't know. I would bet on a 95% probability of a permanent colony of Mars in 300 years. 60% in 150. 30% in 75, maybe.

You do realize that the chances that we find ourselves in a Roddenberry Star Trek universe post-interstellar flight capability is vanishingly small, right? :P

// @japchap

Sure, another possibility is that we extinct ourselves during the Great Filter (or some other filter). But once we pass that filter, the probability that we will be targeted by an advanced civilization just keeps on going up

"radio bleed" is completely different from the directed energy required to send a signal to a remote star. I think potential invaders won't decimate humans for Earth or the natural resources on Earth (because, ostensibly, it's a lot easier to find an empty planet without having to deal with pesky humans) but instead so humans don't become a threat to their civilization (いわゆる preemptive strike)

// @japchap

TBH, I think a likely failure mode of the human civilization may be decimation by a technologically advanced alien civilization. Broadcasting signals to the great unknown is not a good idea.

Good luck!

What's not to like about it? Massive killer radiation! Juno's visible light camera isn't the best -- we'll be getting new pretty pictures but the majority of the data will be from a bunch of other sensors.
