You're talking to the guy who wants ECC RAM in his desktop machine, too. :)

They may be able to handle the load, but boy, I would be really really nervous running server workloads on consumer hardware. I used to do that at the school I was working at back in the day and things blew up pretty fast under consistent load. Not to mention the lack of ECC RAM :P

$7,500 in one-time equipment savings over even a year period maybe translates to what? I bet it's much less than $1 per employee per month.

I saw that. Although cost savings may be nice, it's always good to have more than less capacity, especially when you're buying your own hardware.

(and maybe a nice fat job so it's less of a shock to my wife when I drop $5,000 on a computer, heh)

I'm going to wait for DDR4 memory to come down a bit in price and also the GTX 1080 to come out. :)

Even non-overclocked at 4.0Ghz sounds like it's crazy.

Boy, do I want a Core i7-6700K…

actually I used the controls (GUI, not hardware) to make it as soft as possible and put it right up to my ear, with a sleep timer. Naoko didn't hear it at all.
